Corken LPG D891 Reciprocating Compressor

Corken's reciprocating compressors are an ideal solution for liquid transfer applications in systems with poor net positive suction head (NPSH) conditions. Unlike liquid pumps, which can suffer from excessive maintenance due to inadequate NPSH, reciprocating compressors handle only vapor, making them unaffected by such conditions. This ensures reliable performance in challenging environments, reducing maintenance requirements.

Designed for top unloading applications, these compressors excel in transferring liquids from pressurized tanks, such as tank cars and buried tanks, which often feature top unloading connections.

Most vertical LPG reciprocating compressors in Corken’s lineup are equipped with single-packed piston rods and are not oil-free. They are suited for non-corrosive and non-toxic applications where oil-free service and leakage containment are not critical. Common applications include propane, butane, agricultural ammonia, and natural gas.

Exception – Model D891:
The D891 model features two sets of packing (one V-ring and one segmented) for enhanced containment; however, it is not oil-free, making it suitable for specific applications where oil-free operation is not required.

Corken reciprocating compressors are designed to offer robust performance and reliability, making them a preferred choice for demanding industrial applications.

Piston displacement: up to 117 cfm (198.8 m3/hr)
Working pressure: up to 450 psi (31 bar g)
Brake horsepower: up to 45 hp (34 kW)
Maximum outlet temperature: 350°F (177°C)

  • Packing Configuration: One packing set per piston rod, utilizing a V-ring packing design (includes V-rings, male and female packing rings, washers, and a spring) for effective sealing.
  • Compression Type: Does not offer oil-free compression, suitable for applications where oil-free operation is not required.
  • Compression Design: Single-stage compression is standard. Model 891 offers a two-stage compression design as an exception.
  • Models Available:
    • Four single-acting models: 91, 291, 491, and 691.
    • One double-acting model: D891.
  • Cylinder Sizes: Available in 3.0″, 4.0″, and 4.5″ diameters.
  • Connection Types: Available with NPT or Class 300 RF connections to suit various system requirements.
  • Head and Cylinder: Ductile iron for strength and wear resistance.
  • Crosshead Guide, Crankcase, Flywheel, and Bearing Carrier: Gray iron for durability and vibration damping.
  • Valve Seat and Bumper: Stainless steel or ductile iron for optimal performance and durability.

  • V-Ring Packing: PTFE (glass and moly filled) for enhanced durability and leak prevention.
  • Packing Cartridge: Ductile iron for structural integrity.
  • Crankshaft: Ductile iron for heavy load support and robustness.
  • Connecting Rod: Ductile iron for reliable performance under stress.
  • Connecting Rod Bearing: Bimetal Babbitt for superior wear resistance and lubrication.
  • Wrist Pin: Steel for strength and durability.
  • Wrist Pin Bushing: Bronze for high wear resistance.
  • Main Bearing: Tapered roller bearings for precise alignment and heavy load handling.
  • O-Rings: Buna-N and Neoprene for excellent sealing and chemical resistance.
  • Cylinder and Heads: All cylinders and heads are made of ductile iron for maximum thermal shock endurance.
  • Single Packed Compressor: A great low-cost option for applications where oil-free gas and leakage containment are not critical.
  • Valve Design: Offers quiet operation, high efficiency, and greater durability.
  • Self-Lubricating Piston Rings: The step-cut design of the piston rings provides higher efficiencies during their lifespan.
  • Positively Locked Pistons: Allows end clearance to be precisely set for maximum efficiency and long life.
  • Packing Sets: Feature a spring-loaded seal design that self-adjusts to compensate for normal wear.
  • Adjustable Packing Screw: Ensures maximum sealing capacity throughout the life of the packing (exception: model 891).
  • Cast Iron Crossheads: Provide superior resistance to corrosion and galling.
  • Pressure-Lubricated Crankcase: With a filter, ensures that the internals remain well lubricated at all times, minimizing premature wear.
