The Roper A Series General Purpose Pumps are designed for a wide range of clean fluid pumping applications, offering versatility and durability for tasks such as pressure lubrication, hydraulic service, fuel delivery, and general liquid transfer.

  • Standard Motor Speeds: The pumps are designed to run efficiently at typical motor speeds, ensuring compatibility with various setups.
  • Bi-Directional Rotation: Although factory-constructed for clockwise rotation (when facing the pump's drive shaft end), the pumps can be reassembled for counter-clockwise rotation with comparable efficiency.
  • Quiet-Running Helical Gears: The use of helical gears minimizes friction and vibration, contributing to quieter operation and improved overall efficiency.
  • Long-Lasting Bearings: The special wear-resistant, high-lead bronze bearings (with options for iron and carbon) are designed to withstand high-stress environments, offering long service life. The pumps feature four heavy-duty sleeve bearings to ensure positive support and smooth operation.
  • Precise Manufacturing: With strict tolerances, these pumps are engineered to provide minimal clearances for optimal pumping efficiency and reliability.
  • Rugged Construction: All castings are made from cast iron, ensuring durability. Large, hardened steel dowel pins maintain precise alignment between the faceplate, case, and backplate for enhanced structural integrity.
  • Maintenance-Friendly Design: The design makes it easy to maintain the pumps, ensuring that they continue to perform at a high level with minimal downtime.
  • Complete C-face or Foot Mount Flange:
This refers to the type of mounting configuration available for the component. A "C-face" typically means the component can be directly mounted to a motor or other equipment with a specific flange for easy integration. A "foot mount" indicates that the component has feet for bolting onto a surface, offering flexibility in installation.

  • Optional Integrated Pressure Relief Valve:
This suggests that an integrated pressure relief valve is available as an option. A pressure relief valve is used to protect the system from overpressure situations, ensuring safety and reliability. Its integration into the unit can save space and installation time.

  • Mechanical Seals or Lip Seals:
This points to the type of seals available for the component. Mechanical seals are often used in pumps to prevent fluid leakage along rotating shafts. Lip seals are a simpler option, often used in less demanding applications, and they form a barrier to prevent contamination or leakage.

  • Many Unique, Application-Specific Materials of Construction Available:
This indicates that the component can be customized with different materials to suit specific applications, whether that be for chemical resistance, durability, temperature tolerance, or other considerations.

  • Cast Iron Housings:

    • Properties: Cast iron is strong, wear-resistant, and capable of absorbing vibrations. It is often used for structural components due to its rigidity and ability to withstand stress and pressure.
  • Hardened Steel Shafts:

    • Properties: Hardened steel is steel that has been heat-treated to increase its hardness and wear resistance. This process allows it to withstand high stresses and reduce wear and tear.
  • Ductile Iron Gears:

    • Properties: Ductile iron (also known as nodular cast iron) has improved tensile strength, ductility, and shock resistance compared to regular cast iron. It is more resistant to impact and can endure higher stresses.
  • Bronze Journal Bearings:

    • Properties: Bronze is an alloy of copper, typically with tin, that has excellent corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and good performance under high loads and pressures. Journal bearings made of bronze can handle rotating shafts with minimal friction and wear.
  • Buna Elastomer or Graphite Impregnated Teflon® Packing:

    • Properties:
      • Buna Elastomer: A synthetic rubber that offers good resistance to oils, fuels, and other chemicals. It is commonly used for sealing purposes.
      • Graphite Impregnated Teflon®: A combination of Teflon® (PTFE) with graphite particles, providing excellent wear resistance, low friction, and chemical resistance. It is commonly used in sealing applications where friction reduction is important.

Mechanical Seal (Standard)

A mechanical seal is designed to prevent product leakage in applications where it is unacceptable. It operates more efficiently than a packed box and typically offers a longer service life when maintained under proper conditions. One of its key advantages is that it does not require any adjustments over time. The standard version is an elastomeric bellows-type seal, which is capable of handling temperatures up to 212ºF (100ºC). For applications requiring higher temperature tolerance, special fittings can be provided to handle more extreme conditions.

Mechanical Seal (Positive Driven)

This type of mechanical seal is positively driven and incorporates a PTFE wedge, making it ideal for use with corrosive and/or viscous liquids. The unique wedge construction of the secondary sealing element minimizes leakage significantly, offering enhanced performance in challenging environments. These seals are capable of withstanding higher temperatures, with a standard temperature limit of 450°F (232°C). Similar to the standard mechanical seal, special fittings can be customized for even higher temperature applications, ensuring versatility in various industrial settings.
