The Tuthill MD Vacuum Booster Models 150, 240, and 400 are advanced systems designed to enhance the performance of vacuum pumps, enabling faster pumping speeds and deeper vacuum levels. These boosters are critical for various industries, including chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics, semiconductors, food processing, and more.

1. High-Performance Vacuum Boosting:

  • Supercharge Pumps: The vacuum boosters significantly extend the performance of vacuum pumps by increasing pumping speeds and achieving deeper vacuum levels. This is essential for industries requiring high-performance vacuum systems.

2. Applications:

  • The boosters are used across industries such as chemical manufacturing, petrochemical processes, plastics production, semiconductor fabrication, wood composites, food processing, vacuum furnace applications, and more.

3. Mechanical Seals:

  • Rotor & Drive Shaft Seals: These vacuum boosters are equipped with mechanical seals on both the rotor and drive shafts for sealing and preventing leakage.
  • Water-Cooled Drive Shaft Seal: Included for enhanced thermal management, ensuring that the booster operates efficiently under various conditions.
  • Cooling Coils: Located in the end covers to manage heat build-up (Note: Cooling coils are not included with versions featuring optional motor mounting flanges).
  • Noise Reduction: Operates at 82 dB(A) or less at blank-off, ensuring low mechanical noise during operation.

4. Slinger Seals:

  • Non-Contacting Slinger Seals: In addition to the mechanical drive shaft seals, the vacuum boosters incorporate slinger seals on the rotor shafts. These non-contacting, non-wearing seals offer extra protection, reducing wear on the components.
  • Water-Cooled Drive Shaft Seal: Ensures efficient cooling for long-lasting performance.
  • Flanged Port Fittings: Standard for ease of installation and use in various applications.
  • Cooling Coils: Not included with versions using slinger seals.

5. Special Materials (for specific models):

  • Standard Construction Materials: The vacuum boosters feature cast iron housing, ductile iron rotors, and shafts for durability.
  • Special Materials: For specific models, alternative materials such as stainless steel, carbon steel, and ductile iron can be used. Additionally, Bi-Protec® Nickel/Armoloy® special coating is available for enhanced protection.

6. Optional Motor Mounting Flanges:

  • Direct Motor Mounting: All models are available with flange adapters for direct mounting of either a NEMA C-face motor (up to 75 HP) or an IEC D-flange motor (up to 55 kW). This eliminates the need for a separate base-mounted assembly and coupling guard, simplifying installation.

7. Metric Availability:

  • Metric Connections: M-D Pneumatics vacuum boosters are available with metric drive shaft and process connections, offering flexibility for international applications.

8. Special Testing:

  • The vacuum boosters undergo rigorous testing to ensure high quality:
    • ASME PTC-9 testing (1 PSIG slip method)
    • Hydrostatic testing up to 150 PSIG (10.35 bar g)
    • Pressure gas testing up to 100 PSIG (6.9 bar g)
    • Seal leakage testing to ensure reliable, leak-free operation.
  • Chemicals & Petrochemicals: Enhance the performance of vacuum systems used in chemical processing, ensuring deeper vacuum levels and improved operational efficiency.
  • Plastics & Semiconductors: Essential for precise vacuum environments required in plastics molding and semiconductor production.
  • Food Processing: Helps to create controlled vacuum environments for food packaging and processing.
  • Wood Composites & Vacuum Furnace: Improves the quality and speed of processes requiring high-vacuum systems.
