The Tuthill MD Vacuum Booster 1800-4500 Series is a range of vacuum boosters designed to enhance the performance of vacuum pumps by significantly increasing pumping speeds and achieving deeper vacuum levels. These units are commonly used in various industrial applications including chemical, petrochemical, plastics, semiconductor, and food processing industries, as well as in vacuum furnaces and wood composites manufacturing.

  • Vacuum Booster Models:

    • Available in models 1800, 2200, 2900, 3600, and 4500, each offering progressively higher vacuum performance.
  • Mechanical Seals:

    • These units use mechanical seals on both the rotor shafts and the drive shaft for enhanced sealing and durability.
    • They come with flanged port fittings, water-cooled drive shaft seals, and cooling coils in the end covers.
    • Optional motor mounting flanges are available in specific models.
  • Low Mechanical Noise:

    • Designed to operate at or below 82 dB(A) at blank-off, ensuring minimal noise disruption in the workspace.
  • Slinger Seals:

    • Uses mechanical drive shaft seals with a non-contacting slinger seal on the rotor shafts. These seals do not wear and are highly dependable, particularly for air and gas applications.
  • Construction Materials:

    • Standard materials include cast iron for the housing, end plates, and end covers, and ductile iron for the rotors and shafts.
    • Special materials like stainless steel, carbon steel, or additional coatings (e.g., Bi-Protec®) are available for certain models.
  • Motor Mounting Flanges:

    • The units can be equipped with flange adapters for mounting NEMA C-face motors (up to 75 HP) or IEC D-flange motors (up to 55 kW). This eliminates the need for separate base-mounted assemblies or coupling guards.
  • Testing & Certifications:

    • The vacuum boosters are tested to stringent standards, including:
      • ASME PTC-9 (1 PSIG slip method)
      • Hydrostatic testing to 150 PSIG (10.35 bar g)
      • Pressure gas testing to 100 PSIG (6.9 bar g)
      • Seal leakage testing.
  • Special Materials & Coatings:

    • The option to apply special coatings such as Bi-Protec® (Nickel/Armoloy®) for corrosion resistance and enhanced performance.
  • Metric Availability:

    • The vacuum boosters are available with metric drive shaft and process connections for international compatibility.
  • Supercharging Vacuum Pumps
  • Increasing Vacuum System Capacities
  • Reducing System Ultimate Pressures
