The Tuthill MD Vacuum Booster 540-720 is a high-performance vacuum booster used in various industrial applications to enhance the performance of vacuum pumps. The vacuum booster helps achieve faster pumping speeds and deeper vacuum levels by "supercharging" the vacuum pumps, making them highly efficient in industries such as chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics, semiconductors, food processing, vacuum furnace applications, and more.

  • Mechanical Seals:

    • These models incorporate mechanical seals on both the rotor shafts and the drive shaft.
    • They have flanged port fittings, water-cooled drive shaft seals, and cooling coils in the end covers.
    • Water-cooled seals are not included with the optional motor mounting flange versions.
  • Slinger Seals:

    • These models use a mechanical drive shaft seal combined with a non-contacting, non-wearing slinger seal on the rotor shafts.
    • They also feature water-cooled drive shaft seals and flanged port fittings.
    • Cooling coils are not included in these versions.
    • Water-cooled drive shaft seal is excluded with optional motor mounting flange versions.
  • Noise Level:

    • These vacuum boosters are designed to operate at a low noise level, with an operating sound of 82 dB(A) or less at blank-off.
  • Materials:

    • Standard materials include cast iron for the housing, end plates, and end covers, with ductile iron rotors and shafts.
    • Special materials such as stainless steel, carbon steel, or ductile iron are available for certain models.
    • The Bi-Protec® coating option provides a special Nickel/Armoloy® finish.
  • Optional Motor Mounting Flanges:

    • The vacuum booster models can be fitted with flange adapters to mount a NEMA C-face motor (up to 75 HP) or an IEC D-flange motor (up to 55 kW) directly to the booster. This eliminates the need for a separate base-mounted assembly and coupling guard.
  • Metric Availability:

    • These vacuum boosters are available with metric drive shafts and process connections.
  • Special Testing:

    • The vacuum boosters undergo special testing, including:
      • ASME PTC-9 (1 PSIG slip method).
      • Hydrostatic testing up to 150 PSIG (10.35 bar g).
      • Pressure gas testing up to 100 PSIG (6.9 bar g).
      • Seal leakage testing.
  • Supercharging Vacuum Pumps
  • Increasing Vacuum System Capacities
  • Reducing System Ultimate Pressures
